It's hard to believe that the world's 1st Bullet Train System's (Shinkansen = New Line) engine, though the engine displayed was a 2nd generation, is in the UK's Nat'l Ry Mu at 6:27. The man who had conceived n completed this world's 1st system in 1964, Hideo Shima (島 秀雄) which due to the hi overrun from the estimated cost was condemned by the authorities in Japan but was honored later by the British for the recognition as the 1st. It was not just the fastest train speed at that time but the entire railway system - Management of the railway network, controls, operations, and the hardware - radar dome at front (bc. the train is too fast for the driver to react if there is a danger up ahead), sophisticated shock absorbers, elec. generator relays, ... etc. Here, I was just browsing for the World's 1st 100mph spd breaker, the Flying Scotsman A3 photos, specifically, to c how her below boiler running board's front end of the firebox and ashpan juts out and connected. I think the ashpan for this engine is not at the edge of the firebox but it's between n below the rear truck. And, would like to know how the front end of the rear truck is constructed. Is this truck articulated or fixed to the engine's frame? I need to know these details for my 1/32nd scale live steam A3. But, un4-2-8ly, the photo of her under the running board there in many many utube videos and still photos on-line r too dark, underexposed! And, besides, everyone shoots the same photo of this A3 = front superposed n they don't realize dat everyone is doing the same, viz., "Me Too" shots. Heck! So disappointing. And same shots everywhere for any other locos of the UK, USA, Ger, Japan, ... Pls be more creative, no more "Me Too" shots. So, if any photographer out there in the UK, please shoot photos of these details - Front, Rear, Broad side, a bit angled shots, from the bottom, etc for 2D and 3D views. Please place the photos at railpictures.net (free viewings) with the URL address here at this comment section or any other public free photo locations. What a rags to riches engine. It went to Barry, and was bought as a spare boiler for Clun Castle, having lost its tender and smokebox.

It would have been better if Earl of Mount Edgcumbe had followed Tangmere. I'm not complaining, because the video ended with our little Great Western beauty in full cry. She's music to my ears.

A FARCICAL CON !!! You pay a lot of money for a supposed "Steam train ride" only to find they have added a DIESEL loco to the train, which quite clearly is doing a good 50% OF THE WORK as you can hear the diesel roaring past the camera!!! So just when life gets interesting going up hills like Shap with a steam loco, where the engine would have to work hard and give out a thunderous continuous roar, with huge smoke effects. The Diesel provides most of the power. So the steam loco has to do little work, and can almost saunter up the Hill. Without the normal grand smoke & sounds effects, you would have seen in steam days. It also means that professional train timers cannot time the train & work out how much power the steam loco is exerting, or exact speeds over any quarter mile section. So you cannot log such a train. Indeed putting a heavy vehicle on the rear of a train (unless banking on gradients) was forbidden in BR days, because its DANGEROUS. So I certainly would never waste my money on such a Farcical CON. Much better in Germany were steam excursions don't have Diesels attached, and as seen on a number of occasions have reached speeds approaching a 100mph. Indeed the 02.0201 Pacific has reached 106mph in preservation (it has achieved speeds as high as 113.3mph in East German Railways service in the 1960's) It also has the largest driving wheels fitted to ANY Pacific of 7ft 6in. NOTE: I began Driving steam back in the 1970's before becoming a Qualified Locomotive Mechanical Engineer, & I've worked for many Railways around the World.
